#45 closed defect (fixed)

resizing editor window shouldn't scroll content

Reported by: jaj Owned by: jaj
Priority: minor Milestone: Cocoa IDE v?
Component: IDE Version:

Description

When an editor window is resized, the text is scrolled so that the insertion point is in the middle of the window. The text that is at the beginning of the window should remain at the beginning of the window.

FWIW, this seems to only happen if the insertion point was visible before resizing: if one scrolls so that the insertion point is not visible, resizing the window doesn't seem to change the text view's origin.

Note that TextEdit? seems to behave the same way, as, I assume, do lots of other Mac applications.

I'm not sure that I'd characterize this as "major".

  • Priority changed from major to minor

I haven't really been paying attention to priority. I guess I should start. Change priority to minor.

  • Milestone set to Cocoa IDE v?

for the record, mikel lists this as one of his top 10 IDE annoyances.

And it's top 3 on my list. ;)

A, perhaps remotely, related behavior that I do think we should keep (I'm mentioning it since it may get discarded in the process of "fixing" this issue): It's nice that the window scrolls so that the function body (surrounded by hilighted parens) is near the vertical centre of the window, when brought there via Meta-. (of other means of invoking go to function).

AFAICT, this is fixed in the trunk as of r12125.
