#1421 new enhancement

Buffering option for connecting via a socket

Could we get either :buffering option for the ccl::make-socket function, or a new function (e.g. something like CMUCL's open-network-stream) that accepts such an option?

Having buffering issues in the current way when using terminal connected via sockets (common way for Maxima connection to GUIs), see e.g. an issue there.

Looking at where it is set at some other systems, it seems that the make-fd-stream function is used as a wrapper where the buffering (commonly :line for 'character, :none for 'binary) is set. I could not find such an option for ccl::make-fd-stream though; and the buffer size is set to 1024 there (quite more than 63 set for terminal input/output).
