#1404 new defect

Hemlock causing hang

I run 1.11-r16804M with the Cocoa IDE on an early 2011 MacBook? Pro/ MacOS 10.12.2. Over the past couple of months I have experience Hemlock windows have become "touchy", meaning that at impossible-to-predict times window manipulation causes lisp to hang or crash. Usually it is closing a window that does it, but I have also experienced it with scrolling. The hanging is evidenced by the spinning wheel cursor and Mac's Activity Monitor reporting that lisp is "not responding".

Sometimes the hang is a crash, in which case the following error msg appears:

Unhandled exception 10 at 0x7fffc5a42798, context->regs at #x70000e2ae2d0 Exception occurred while executing foreign code

In one of Hemlock’s many crashes so far today I saw an error message I have never seen before:

Error: invalid buffer #<HEMLOCK-VIEW " build.lisp /Users/brooks/my files/my various projects/varilets/code/varilets image/" #x302000D38F3D> for view NIL While executing: #<STANDARD-METHOD GUI::COMPUTE-TEMPORARY-ATTRIBUTES (GUI::HEMLOCK-TEXTSTORAGE-TEXT-VIEW)>, in process Initial(0). Type :POP to abort, :R for a list of available restarts. Type :? for other options.
